Mirage 2024

In "Mirage 2024," viewers will see overlapping images of Hong Kong's social movements and Taiwan's historical sites and daily life. This series explores how identity and boundaries are defined in a changing geopolitical environment and the role of time in shaping collective and individual experiences. It prompts reflection on the nature of freedom, the cost of power, and the urgency of social change.

The title "Mirage" refers to an optical illusion, derived from the French word meaning "wonderful sight." It represents a real optical phenomenon interpreted by the human mind, challenging viewers to consider how personal and collective memories influence their perception.

Additionally, the title alludes to the Mirage 2000, a French-made fighter jet used by Taiwan, symbolizing Taiwan's geopolitical and military tensions. The year 2024 reflects an ongoing and uncertain process rather than a fixed conclusion, prompting thoughts on what contemporaneity means in a rapidly changing social and political landscape. Is it merely an elusive mirage we pursue but can never fully grasp?
